Red, yellow and blue pull-tight seals on the handwheels of three valves at a tank terminal.

Container seals: bolt, cable or pull tight?

A seal shows whether a closure has been opened since it was sealed. Every seal is numbered. You record that number in your administration. If the number differs later, or the seal is damaged, you know that the closure has been opened. Below are the three types we supply and when to choose which.

Last updated:

Bolt seal

A bolt seal has a steel pin that clicks into a locking body. We supply four versions for container doors: Neptune, New Fork Seal, Barrier and Barrier RSS.

  • Every seal has a unique number.
  • Custom printing is possible on Neptune, Barrier and Barrier RSS.
  • Barrier is available in orange and white.
  • Minimum order: 25 to 50 pieces, depending on the model.

Choose a bolt seal for container doors.

Cable seal

A cable seal has a steel wire. We supply Cable Seal 350, Cable Seal 500 and Blocker LP-FT.

  • Consecutive numbering.
  • Custom printing is possible on Cable Seal 350 and 500. Cable Seal 350 is available in red and blue.
  • Minimum order: 50 pieces for Cable Seal 350 and 500, 25 pieces for Blocker LP-FT.

Choose a cable seal for export containers.

Pull tight seal

With a pull tight seal you pull the tail tight until the closure is secure. We supply 15 versions, from Light to Heavy Duty, also for fire hose reels and fire extinguishers. Several colours are available. The tail differs per model. Numbering, text or a logo is possible on request. The minimum order is 200 pieces per version.

Choose a pull tight seal for equipment, fire hose reels and fire extinguishers. For container doors we offer bolt seals and cable seals.

Your own number sequence

Would you like seals that match your administration? Then you can specify your own number sequence, with a prefix and a starting number. This is possible for bolt seals, cable seals and pull tight seals. The minimum order is 100 pieces.

What is ISO 17712?

ISO 17712:2013 is an international standard for mechanical seals on freight containers. According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the standard covers the classification, acceptance and withdrawal of seals.

According to CBP, the standard distinguishes three classes for the strength of a seal:

  • I for Indicative;
  • S for Security;
  • H for High Security.

Strict requirements apply to the H class. An H seal must also show evidence of tampering. An independent accredited laboratory tests the strength and the evidence of tampering, and the security of the manufacturing process is assessed independently. The US C-TPAT programme asks for an H seal for containers to the United States.

Please note: we do not hold test reports for our seals ourselves. According to our supplier, Neptune, New Fork Seal, Barrier, Barrier RSS, Cable Seal 350, Cable Seal 500 and Blocker LP-FT comply with ISO 17712:2013. For the Neptune and the Cable Seal 350 and 500, the supplier and the manufacturer state class H (High Security). Do you need a seal with a test report, for example for C-TPAT? State this in your quote request for that model.
